Continuing Education

ServiceMaster by Restoration Xperts offers a number of continuing education courses providing you with information to better service your customer. We offer both credited and non-credited courses for insurance agents, insurance adjusters and Real Estate professionals. These classes are designed to improve the knowledge of you and your staff regarding the emergency mitigation process. Our classes are offered regularly through out the year to fit into your schedule. Most of these classes are free of charge and will satisfy all of the State of Utah and Wyoming requirements. Here are some descriptions of the courses we offer:

Water Damage Mitigation   back to top

  • How gravity works to spread water into non-affected areas
  • The importance of rapid response
  • After-effects of water damage

Water mitigation talks about the effect that water has on a structure and the effects of abnormal water. We have created a training program designed to educate you about how to reduce the size of many of your property losses. The concept is called loss mitigation. In this class, you will learn just how much damage water can cause and what steps can be taken to reduce or minimize the damage. We discuss how to handle water losses properly and what customers can do to lessen the effects of water on the structure and personal belongings, and how to prevent secondary damage. Your insured’s are not trained to think about things like water migration. They don’t understand how gravity and capillary action cause water to spread rapidly into non-affected areas. When left untreated, even for a short time, the loss worsens, the costs go up and you stand a chance of the insured experiencing more problems than necessary.

Smoke & Odor Mitigation   back to top

  • Costly misconceptions about smoke and odor
  • Why smoke burns what the fire doesn't
  • Where acid gases flow and the damage it causes
  • How odor perception becomes reality

Smoke and odor mitigation discusses what effect the smoke can have on household items and how it creates an acid film on those items. Your insured’s are not trained to think about things like metal etching and corrosion as a result of fire. They don’t understand how chemical vapors and acid gases cause damage to household surfaces such as aluminum, chrome, porcelain and marble. When left untreated the loss worsens, the costs go up and you stand a chance of the insured experiencing more problems than necessary. What we need to do is stop the loss before things get worse . This doesn’t apply just to smoke damage, but to most property losses. We learn the differences in cleaning supplies to those that a professional uses to clean, and how some chemicals can set a stain.

Mold Remediation   back to top

  • Why mold grows indoors
  • How mold should be remediated
  • The secret to preventing mold in the first place

Mold contamination continues to receive increased attention in the media and is a rapidly growing concern for homeowners and property managers, realtors, as well as insurance companies. Without proper mitigation of a water loss, mold can start to grow in as little as 48 hours, and mold contamination has been identified as a major contributor to building-related illness and poor indoor air quality. Mold remediation is not a difficult service to perform, but principles like containment, negative air pressure and protection from exposure must be clearly understood. In this class, we’ll examine what mold is and its health effects on people. You’ll see how mold grows, how it spreads and its life cycle.

In addition, you’ll learn what action should be taken to remove mold in a safe and reasonable manner.

Restorative Structural Drying is a result of applied science and an emphasis on drying all structural materials without having to replace them. In this class you will learn how the science of evaporation, dehumidification and temperature control can be used to reduce and prevent damage and the need for re-construction. Your policyholders are not trained to think about things like the permeance of building materials. They do not understand how improper management of the variables of airflow, temperature and humidity can lead to long term damage and even unhealthy indoor air quality, not to mention the need for tear out and replacement if not dried properly. These are aspects of the science of drying applied by a restorative drying professional in order to save structural components including walls, flooring (not just carpets!) and even contents.
